The port of Liège and our office
The port of Liège is the second largest western European inland port (after Duisburg). Every year, 15 million tons of goods are handled. The location is optimal: At the confluence of the Albert Canal (largest inland waterway in Belgium) and the Meuse. In addition, the port of Liège offers all possibilities in the areas of transhipment and terminals, modern infra-and superstructure and multimodal platforms.
The port of Liège, after the decline of the local steel industry, is firmly committed to the development of multimodal platforms. The possibilities are endless: from the reception of small seagoing vessels to distribution with all modes of transport.
The Tournai region is mainly known for its limestone mining in various quarries in the area. Consequently some of our major customers are local quarries.
The river Scheldt is the ideal connection to transport the vast amounts of limestone.
There are many construction companies in the region of the northern French town of Valenciennes. They often demand transports of indivisible pieces via the Scheldt towards Antwerp and Rotterdam.
The connection of the Scheldt with the project Seine Nord is a big opportunity for the Hainaut region. Especially since in the future traffic of larger ships between different locations in the Benelux and northern France becomes possible.
